Presentation and discussion on Airbase's future

On Wednesday May 5th 7.30pm at the Arran Room at the Ardshiel Hotel, Campbeltown, Machrihanish Airbase Community Company (MACC) hosted a presentation by Alan Caldwell of DTAS on "The Comrie Development Trust's Successful Acquisition and Development of Cultybraggan". This was followed by a general discussion on the future of Machrihanish Airbase and the next steps for MACC.

Note: Cultybraggan is a former army camp extending to 90 acres which was sold by MOD. The community of Comrie formed a development trust and successfully bid for and bought the property which is now thriving and provides income, employment and a wealth of facilities for the local community.

The Chairperson of the Big Lottery said in May 2007 “This has the potential be one of the leading examples of sustainable development in rural Scotland”.

The Development Trust Association Scotland (DTAS) is a community led regeneration network which supports community groups. One form of support is by providing expert advice gained from the experience of others such as Alan Caldwell.
